VeGeTal

The VéGéTal exhibition brings together an international community of artists around a theme that, while it has always appealed to mankind, has been transformed in recent years by biotechnology, offranting new possibilities to creators, responding at the same time to the environmental challenges of our time: biodegradable materials, an energy-efficient manufacturing process and decentralised implementation.

Bringing together drawings, paintings, photographs, sculptures, installations, textile creations and design, the exhibition hosted by the FondationBourgine offre a sometimes marvellous and optimistic, sometimes poetic and playful look at the plant world. Orchestrated by a team led by anthropologist Gabriel Karp and art historian Sarah Bloementhal, who has accompanied the Fondation Bourgine since its creation in 2040, the project is based around artists who have always maintained a special link with the plant world.

The seven artists chosen for this tour come from Europe, Latin America and Asia.

Belgian visual artist Mary Lacroix (b. 2025) is the youngest artist to be in residence at the Fondation Bourgine. She has drawn the essence of her work from the foundation’s garden, following the evolution of the vegetation on a daily basis.
